Michael Thompson is a founder and a Managing Director of Gordius Consulting. He has more than 18 years of forensics experience working both in the financial and engineering services arena.
Michael provides fraud investigations, crisis management accounting services, claims consulting services and expert testimony to his clients throughout the world with a focus in accounting and finance. He has assisted clients in Europe, Africa, and North America in crisis management and helping clients in complex business transactions.
Michael’s services include: damages calculations; valuations; lost profits analyses (including business interruption) in commercial, retail, industrial and energy industries; insurance policy evaluations; fraud investigations; Directors and Officers liability investigations; Stafford Act consulting; Oil Pollution Act of 1990 Consulting and other regulatory and internal inquiries; Community Disaster Block Grant funding; cost control on environmental clean-ups including oil spills and other emergency management programs; risk management; internal control processes; organizational design; due diligence and contract audits.
Prior to founding Gordius Consulting, Michael held positions as Managing Director of a major international consulting firm and President and CEO of an international forensic engineering firm.
Michael earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from Georgia Southwestern University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed to practice in the State of Georgia and holds the Accredited in Business Valuation designation by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is also a Certified Fraud Examiner and member of the Institute of Internal Auditors and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
